I couldn't remember the last time someone picked me up for a date. Normally, we'd pick a meet-up point and go from there, but I stood in front of my mirror to check my reflection. My curls were perfect. My skin moisturized and glowing under the bright overhead light. I'd gone with a pretty, yellow sweater dress that clung to my thick curves, and I zipped up a pair of matching stiletto boots. My black trench coat would go over it.

Draven had already picked up Reggie to take him home for the weekend. He'd be camping the next night with Drake and the guys, and I'd get him back during the usual Sunday dinner. When I'd moved here, I'd had my doubts about the small community. Everyone was nice and laidback, although there were a few assholes about, but that happened everywhere.

I smoothed the sweater dress over my hips and then picked up my black clutch purse that was big enough for lipstick, phone, cards, and wallet. I second-guessed my choice of shoes, but it's not like Drake didn't know my height, and he said he loved I was taller than him in my heels. We had to be a sight, him at six and a half feet and me only a little shorter than him in flats. Even in my heels, I still felt almost delicate beside him, as if I physically fit with someone for the first time in my life.

He even said he'd wanted to kiss me at the start of the Winter Carnival for everyone to see. A part of me always waited for the newness to wear off, especially after we'd gotten caught up in the moment on Thanksgiving. While I wasn't typically a self-conscious woman, knowing I was Trans and feeling the proof were two different things. I’d had a few sexual experiences that hadn’t gone well.

I shook off the train of thought. I wasn't going to question us. He wanted to take me on a date. In some ways, I think he might want more, and my body was ready, but my mind and heart were telling me to be cautious.

The peal of the doorbell had me rushing for the door with my coat and purse. When I opened it, I froze at the sight of Drake in a tailored suit that highlighted the width of his shoulders and chest. I'd appreciated how a man looked in a suit before, but something about Drake looking all elegant in the dove gray three-piece suit was almost obscene.

"Wow, you look even more gorgeous than normal." He stepped inside, his left arm going around my waist as he tipped his chin to give me a soft hello kiss.

"And you know you're gorgeous."

"Thank you. I changed suits four times."

"Why?"

His hand spread across my lower back. "Because I'm desperate for this date to go well so you'll want to do it again."

"That's cute."

"I'm supposed to be sexy, baby, not cute."

I stroked my fingertips down his striped tie. "You're sexy, too.
